we spent the first semester of our master's degree researching in various parts of hamburg's wilhelmsburg district. as a framework for the many different projects and research processes that emerged, we designed a final exhibition at the traditional location zinnwerke. due to the heterogeneity of the results as well as the district, we decided not to develop a pure exhibition, but to shift the focus to the value of processes and methods as a basis for discussion. the discussion and exhibition room GX7M+5R — a space outside of all spaces was created. the name comes from a code that google maps generates, similar to GPS coordinates. there is a code for any location, even if there are no roads or it has not been mapped. the spatial concept is based on the central idea of demonstrating the value of utopias for social development. the structure consists of 18 cubes that are nested inside each other, so that a space is created in the middle, symbolically generated by the various projects, designs and impressions that surround it. illuminated by various RGB spotlights, this space appears like a foreign world from the outside, like a different reality. entering this dimension should enable the visitor to discard expectations and prejudices and to open up for something new. during the exhibition phase, visitors and experts could move freely from project to project to be inspired. we invited them write down this inspiration in words on a station inside the inner space. an application permanently projected the collected impressions onto the walls of the interior, so that they could be included into the discourse at any time. three times, the space was used for a joint meeting and discussion with invited experts on various topics of urban development and speculative design. we deliberately decided against a frontal presentation so that all participants had the opportunity to talk about their experiences. this way all drafts, ideas and fragments of the whole process of half a year came together to an added value.
