this unusual mosaic piece, created in lisbon, is a composition of the uncontrolled rhythm of rain and the controlled rhythm of an instrument.
unlike most people i like rain. i think it is creating its very own atmosphere and a very specific rhythm. it was my goal to visually express this rhythmic and mostly auditive experience. in contrast to that, the instrument i am very passionate about — the guitar — is more plain, clear and structured. i created a visual composition out of these two auditive elements; contrary yet similar. i learned that a mosaic work is not flat like paper, it can be seen as a light installation. so i chose an urban place for my mosaic and used the direction of different lighting situations to intensify the meaning of my project. when the clear sun is shining, the parts facing upwards (the guitar shape) reflect the light very easily and smoothly. when it is raining, the shattered mosaic pieces facing downwards reflect the aritficial lights that are mirrored by the blank floor. the many irregular pieces create an everchanging rhythm of light reflections, in contrast to the guitar shape.
