design of the novel glennkill – a sheep thriller by german author leonie swann. all elements of this work are handmade.
the book tells the story of a flock of irish sheep who one day find their shepherd lying dead on the open field. they decide to bring the course of his death to light and meanwhile they dig deeper and deeper into the mystreries of the human world. my design supports content and form of the sheep-thriller, which has been written from the perspective of the sheep, in a subtle way and presents it in a new light. the coarse linen cover material shall help the reader see and feel the peculiar character of the sheep. the playful illustration gives a hint at the criminal theme and also at the unique and funny approach of the flock. the comparatively big running text seems to ease the reading process at first, but the used font is rather inconvenient and bulky. the offbeat choice of font intensifies the fact that the sheep, despite and also because they have an awkward way of solving problems, will reach their goal to unravel the mystery of their shepherds death.
